Researcher / PhD Position (m/f/d) in the Knowledge Construction Lab

The IWM invites applications for a

PhD Position (m/f/d)

Part-time 75%, fixed term for three years, starting October 2026

to participate in the DFG funded project “Toward a unifying theoretical framework of dependent numerical judgments” (grant 580118239). Using cognitive and Bayesian modeling, this project investigates common cognitive processes underlying dependent numerical judgment paradigms such as anchoring.


Your tasks:

  • Development of mathematical cognitive and Bayesian models
  • Design, implementation, evaluation and documentation of empirical studies
  • Presentation of research findings at national and international conferences
  • Publications as well as documentation of these findings in relevant academic journals
  • Collaboration on general institute-related activities

Your profile:

  • Above-average degree (Master's or equivalent) in psychology, cognitive science, empirical educational research, or related disciplines
  • Strong interest in statistical, cognitive, and Bayesian modeling
  • Experience in the design, planning, execution and analysis (especially with R) of empirical studies
  • (Initial) experience in programming empirical studies and statistical modeling are an advantage
  • Very good command of English; knowledge of German is an asset
