Dr. Gemma Schino

Gemma Schino has been part of the IWM since August 2025 as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Aesthetics and Learning lab. Her current work investigates how emotional and embodied engagement with art supports learning and development, both in everyday and museum contexts. She focuses on age-related differences in aesthetic experience, using ecologically valid methods to explore how we make sense of art through movement, emotion, and reflection.

Main research topics

  • Emotional and embodied engagement in aesthetic and artistic experiences
  • Epistemic emotions (e.g., curiosity, awe, insight) in learning through art
  • Ecologically grounded methodologies for studying art in everyday and museum contexts
  • Interdisciplinary approaches bridging empirical aesthetics, ecological psychology, cognitive semiotics, and museum studies
